Believe it or not

By Aaron Rao

Two years ago, before entering into varsity life, I believe us students’ live normal lives that believe in an ideal world where countries will be governed with good governance, and cultures and religion are something that are of naturalism. But guess what, taking mass communications, learning what we learn; I believe kind of makes it hard for us to believe in anything anymore. Let me give you readers a clearer picture.

Culture: as we studied are ideas thought up by past dominant groups in order to keep their dominance toward to people so that the status quo can be kept with consent from the people instead of brute force.

Religion: Pretty much the same thing as culture. Probably the difference is that they are a thousand years in gap.

This is not supposed to be offensive to the readers. But guess what, I personally think that learning what we learn, if we think deeper about it, could very well make us realize that everything exterior that we have been brought up to believe in is actually a hoax. 1stly, we learn that the government buys up ownership in the media so that they can control everything. Especially now when it comes to elections, all we see on TV is the blue and white colors of a certain political party. The press, pretty much the same. Top newspapers only show the same colors as on TV. One way or another, our life is controlled by beliefs that were thought up by geniuses in history so that we follow their orders with gladness of heart.

When it comes to religion, Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, and Christianity is the four largest groups of religion believers in the world. Now think about one movie, the DaVinci code, the story of that movie could well be applied in the real world thousands of years ago. Christmas, Hari Raya, CNY, Deepavali, could all be dates that are set by mere humans trying to create cultures millenniums ago. Is it coincidental that all these religions are spread through a single important person? Well I don’t wan to get too deep as these issues are pretty sensitive.

Hegemony can really make you think deep into what really is the truth, if there are any. Standing firm in what we believe in is not that easy anymore if the roots of our beliefs are shaken.
